OUR PASTOR
Pastor Jon Matthews is the founder and pastor-teacher of New Philadelphia Worship Center of Saint Petersburg, Florida. Since accepting Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior in 1976, he has devoted his life and ministry to equipping the body of Christ in God’s word. He is a dynamic teacher and counselor, gifted in presenting the Gospel with clarity and in a practical way, so that lives will be transformed. Pastor Jon and his wife Charlotte have two children, Jonathan and Clarissa. They reside in Saint Petersburg, Florida.
OUR MISSION & VISION
The mission of the church is to glorify God through love, by reaching lost souls with the gospel of grace, and by training believers to resemble Jesus, the Christ.
The vision of the church is to strengthen families in Godly living to build a healthy community.
OUR PURPOSE
The purpose of this church is to worship and share the Gospel of Jesus Christ, the Bible and information about the Christian faith to as many people as possible. The church exists by the grace of God, for the glory of God, which shall be the ultimate purpose in all its functions; the church glorifies God by loving Him and obeying His commands through:
- equipping the saints through biblical instruction and study
- proclaiming the gospel of Jesus Christ through preaching and personal evangelism
- encouraging and supporting missionary work
- administering the ordinance of baptism and communion
- encouraging biblical fellowship
- serving others in the name of Jesus Christ
- calling fellow churches to biblical faithfulness and purity
OUR CHURCH
New Philadelphia Worship Center is a teaching ministry, commissioned with combating spiritual illiteracy in today’s Christians, by equipping them for the works of ministry through instruction; so that the body may grow in the knowledge of the Son of God, become mature disciples, and fulfill the measure of the stature, which belongs to the fullness of Christ.
As a member of the Florida Baptist Association and Southern Baptist Convention, New Philadelphia shares the belief of reaching the lost with the gospel of Jesus Christ and equipping believers from babes to seasoned saints in West Florida and throughout the world.
